$250 – trains 30 nonprofits on how to recruit, engage and manage skilled volunteers and pro bono consultants

““I found this training incredibly relevant to my work with skilled volunteers at the Capital Area Food Bank. I regularly utilize experts from the nonprofit, private, and public sectors to lead trainings for our nonprofit member agencies, and this session will help me to improve my process of vetting potential instructors and get the most out of these collaborations. I wish that I had this training when I started my position, as it might have saved me from significant trial and error. I will definitely spread the word about these trainings to food bank staff and our community partners.” – Matt Brouwer, Capital Area Food Bank

$500 – provides volunteers to serve weekly at 20 hands-on projects addressing social issues such as homelessness, hunger, HIV/AIDS, and the elderly.

$1,000 – trains an executive on board responsibilities and places him/her on a board that matches their skills and interests

“The YWCA National Capital Area has had the good fortune of having 2 board members placed with us from Greater DC Cares Board Leadership Development Program. Our experience has been nothing but fantastic.
It is really easy to spot a board member who has gone through your program. These board members “get it.” They understand the role of a board member sitting on a nonprofit board, they are prepped to understand the financial constraints of a nonprofit and they are ready to commit to rolling up their sleeves and getting to work. They take their commitment very seriously.
Executive Directors are always looking for new resources to tap for board members and I can’t think of a better one than Greater DC Cares Board Leadership Development Program. Sometimes I feel like a talking billboard for your organization.”
Orysia Stanchak, Executive Director, YWCA

$2,500 – connects and facilitates a pro bono consulting project at a nonprofit such as a re-branding campaign or an account management systen, valued at $20,000-$30,000

“If we would have had to pay for this service, we couldn’t have done it. In terms of budget-making and reporting, I have a much more thorough understanding and good processes for budgeting and reporting. I thought I needed help with software & basic bookkeeping; Lynda’s auditing experience gave us that and much, much more.”
--Noel Tieszen, Executive Director, InterStages
